This page describes decoder software you need in order to play High-Definition
files from our web site,
and suggestes viewing and connection options.
Generally we expect users to download HD video files from web sites and
than play from hard drive on local computer.
However if you have very fast broadband internet service you can try just click
on the video file URL to play streaming from our web site. It is more likely will
work with WindowsMedia files since Windows MediaPlayer has built-in streaming capabilities.
You will have to wait a few minutes after MediaPlayer opened while HD video file
is starting streaming.
The preferred video format of video on our web site is 1280x720 progressive picture
24 or 30 fps.
Many users should be able to play such video if they have modern computer hardware.
However some HD files on this site may be in different format (and some files are
standard definition).
We support HD video files in any of the following types WindowsMedia, QuickTime,
AVC (H.264).
You can watch most of HD files on a PC monitor, or by connecting PC to a HD-ready
Televion Monitor.
On our site WindowsMedia HD files have extension .wmv,
QuickTime files have extension .mov,
AVC (H.264) files have extension .mpg or .mpeg.
AVC (H.264) files may be of two types, simply HD video streams (no audio),
or multiplexed MPEG transport streams (video and audio).
To play WindowsMeadia HD video files you will need Microsoft Windows Media Player
verson 10 or higher.
You can typically install it by running Windows Update or by downloading from Microsoft
web site
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/
Most recent release version of Windows Media Player is currently version 11.
Mac users:
There is Windows Media Player 9 version for Mac, avaialble at this web site
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=windowsmedia
We have not tested if it works with our HD files.
To play QuickTime HD video files you will need Apple QuickTime player version 7
or higher,
for Windows or for Mac depending on your system.
You can download latest version from Apple web site
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Most recent version is currently 7.1.6
(QuickTime 7 actually supports using H.264 coding standard for Hight-Definition
video compression.)
AVC (H.264) files may be of two types, simply HD video streams, or multiplexed transport
streams.
To play AVC (H.264) HD video stream you will need H.264 decoder, either hardware
or software.
We can suggest download and install for example Elecard player, avaialble at this
web site
http://elecard.com/download/index.php
You will need download and install two products, Elecard Mpeg Player (demo or full
version),
and Elecard AVC PlugIn.
Note, that without this Plug-In the player itself does not play AVC (H.264) files.
Demo version Elecard player is free, or you can buy a full version at that web site.
Note, that decoding AVC (H.264) HD vido files with larger picture format 1920x1080
requires very fast CPU
and may not be possible on most existing comuters, unless equpped with special hardware
decoder.
For best viewing experience when watching video select highest resolution settings
supported by video card and movitor,
preferably use 1900 x 1080 screen resolution. Best for viewing large wide-screen
format LCD monitor (20'' or larger).
Better yet, to attach computer to a large flat panel HD television.
Many modern models of HD-ready flat panel television sets are equipped with interfaces
suitable for conecting to a computers, through either analog or digital cable. In
most cases though, some additional converting equipment,
such as scan converters may be necessary.
For exampe, if you HD TV is equipped with HDMI digital input and PC video card has
DVI interface you can use
digital DVI to HDMI converter to watch HD video on a TV. (However, such scan converter
may be expensive.)
Alternatively, if you HD TV is equipped with analog component inputs RGB+H/V, or
YPbPr, you can use analog scan converter to watch HD video on a TV.
For example, a scan converter model AITech's HDView may be suitable.
On our site we generally do not advertise or sell any equipment; we can suggest
look on special sites such as
http://www.pcconnection.com/ for
a suitable scan converter equipment;
PC and HD-ready television connection options (for illustration only)
